    Using Professional Judgement when Interpreting FIE Data

     

     

    Dr. Gail Cheramie

    Dr. Gail Cheramie is the director of the nationally approved School Psychology program at UHCL. She consults with public school districts throughout the state of Texas on matters pertaining to special education, including assessment, eligibility, and IEP development. She participates on multidisciplinary evaluation teams in conducting assessments in public schools for certain cases. Dr. Cheramie is a frequent presenter at local, state, and national conferences, and conducts training workshops throughout Texas on "best practices" assessment.


    Kara Zwolinksi

    Kara Zwolinski, M.Ed., currently serves as the Student Evaluation Education Specialist at Region 4 ESC. She has worked in education for 20 years as a Program Specialist for Assessment, an Educational Diagnostician, a Reading Teacher/Dyslexia Specialist, and a classroom teacher. She has a M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction and a M.Ed. in Special Education.

  • Dr. Karla del Rosal

    Karla del Rosal is Assistant Professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning of Southern Methodist University. She recently obtained her Doctorate in Education from the Educational Equity and Cultural Diversity program at the University of Colorado Boulder. Her main research interest is the education of English language learners in science and mathematics EC to 12 classrooms. More specifically, Karla is interested in the academic language and literacy development of English language learners and in teacher education and professional development for teachers teaching this growing student population.

    Craig Pohlman, Ph.D.

    Craig Pohlman directs Mind Matters, Southeast Psych’s learning success program.  Over his career Craig has helped thousands of struggling learners through assessment, consultation, therapy, and advocacy.  He believes in describing learners in terms of strengths and weaknesses, not just with labels and diagnoses.  He also strives to communicate findings and strategy ideas as clearly as possible, sometimes using visuals and metaphors.

    James Basham, Ph.D.

    James D. (Jamie) Basham, Ph.D., is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Special Education at the University of Kansas. He earned his doctorate at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Basham’s research is focused on student learning in modern learning environments chiefly related to the application of Universal Design for Learning (UDL). He is well published, has given numerous talks, and has served as a consultant for school districts, universities, state agencies, and corporate entities on modern learning environments, Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) education, big data, personalization, and UDL. Dr. Basham serves on editorial boards for various journals and was a co-guest editor for the Journal of Special Education Technology topical issue on STEM education for individuals with diverse learning needs. Beyond journals, he serves on the ISTE SETSIG executive board and the SXSWedu Advisory Board. Finally, Dr. Basham is a cofounder of the global UDL Implementation Research Network (UDL-IRN).
