ESC REGION 12’S ALTERNATIVE TEACHER CERTIFICATION
PROGRAM RECEIVES HIGH MARKS ON STATEWIDE REPORT

WACO, Texas – The Education Service Center (ESC) Region 12 Teacher Preparation and Certification Program (TPCP) continues to be rated highly according to the 2008-09 Stetson and Associates survey sponsored by the Consortium of TPCP. ESC Region 12’s TPCP received high marks on the 15th annual evaluation report from interns, mentors and campus administrators.

ESC Region 12 received two 100 percent ratings on the basis of assisting schools in filling positions in critical shortage areas and intern satisfaction with the program. The program also earned a 98 percent rating in the category of preparing qualified teachers for Texas schools. “We are pleased to hear these results as they validate our efforts and provide critical data we will use to help us prepare future quality teachers,” said Wynn Rolf, director of the education preparation and data management.

The report also showed that 96 percent of ESC Region 12 interns felt their experiences exceeded expectations and were prepared to teach, and 99 percent of the interns surveyed were satisfied with the program. Overall, ESC Region 12’s TPCP earned a 90 percent satisfaction rating last year.

The information received from the TPCP Consortium’s yearly evaluation is used by each of the 15 regions across the state to improve its own regional efforts, as well as provide data for setting benchmarks for success and for comparative studies of critical components of the TPCP effort. Additionally, the report provides the framework for systematic improvement to produce increasingly skilled teachers for identified shortage areas in the state.
